FBOX is one of the reporting marks assigned to the Railbox company, established by the Trailer Train Co. (TTX) to provide boxcars which were not assigned to a specific railroad and under ICC regulations in effect at the time could be loaded with any appropriate commodity to any destination via any route (the cars were stenciled with the slogan "NEXT LOAD ANY ROAD"). Most likely this car was sponsored by a breast-cancer organization, or perhaps so painted by Railbox as a donation and could be loaded by just about anyone with anything destined to anywhere, like any other RBOX car. In effect, a moving billboard to spread the message around the country.

The NY&A should be able to get the whole story by putting the car number into the computer, although the situation is a little delicate -- such information is technically confidential and not to be disclosed to any party not involved in the transaction. However, sometimes somebody knows somebody ...

Maybe, in "an abundance of caution" as the saying goes, the NY&A could ask the consignee if they have any objection to letting the information out. If the consignee does object, that would have to be the end of it.

I'm thinking: Roberts Plywood, for this car.
