Re: NY&LE caboose?

I remember Fran Latest had one down there in the mid 1980s that he owned...if I remember it was an ex Erie caboose but I don't recall the number

Re: Could it be 3 miles long?

17,000 feet is just insanity. If they try this nonsense in the winter it's going to completely backfire on them. Who the heck would even try walking that if it got stopped by a dragging equipment detector?? Broken air hose? Imagine trying to change a broken nuckle at just the middle.

Re: NS West Slope Radio reception

Thank you, that is possible since they have been working on the PTC and can signal's. It actually almost sounded as if the repeater was down but I do have a Kenwood receiver that does split the frequency in half. Thanks again for the response

NS West Slope Radio reception

In the last few months between Cresson and Johnstown PA the radio reception has been horrible. This is on the net and on location with good radios. Anyone have an idea what is going on?

Re: Pan Am Worcester Main Line

Has Norfolk Southerns new operating plan affected traffic on this line? Are they combining trains, using DPUs in this area?

I also saw an eastbound coal train on CSX going through Dunkirk a few days ago. I couldn't even guess but maybe going to another state?

Re: Derailment on Horseshoe Curve

I would love to know the tonnage, and if there were helpers..if not on a train that size that's a massive drawbar strain and a lot of force pulling upfront with three ac units. Those empty cars had no chance if there were loads behind them.

Re: Fewer manned helpers at Altoona

The traffic was non stop through Harrisburg the last few days, how long before they shoot themselves in the foot with this nonsense.? The traffic is there, I'm sure they are turning customers away with this new plan and they are probably running anyone out in management who isn't onboard with the pl...

Re: Fewer manned helpers at Altoona

Yesterday in Gallitzin we saw SD60E manned helper set and an SD80Mac manned helper set working the mountain along with the SD40E manned sets, we didn't see one train with a mid train or rear end DPU all day so not sure if it's an experiment they tried or just periodically.

Thank you gentlemen, I appreciate it. Hopefully we might be able to see some additional traffic once they iron out their new operations on the system

Looking for information on the operations at C Tower and Woodvale Yard, for the mid 90s before it closed. Any one on this board that possibly worked there? Looking for yard job, C&BL interchange, frequency of the locals, etc. Thanks for anyone that can help

Re: New York & Lake Erie Railroad (NY&LE) Discussion

My first real job when I was still 17 was the NY&LE Railroad. Growing up next to this line in Eden is what got me fascinated with the rail industry. In 1987 we were still interchanging with CSX and Conrail in Salamanca. We brought up some monster trains ( at least for a shortlisted they were ) of bo...
