There is a railroad tower in Scranton, PA along tracks into a lumber yard that appear to have been out of service for quite a while which looks like it was used to operate the crossing gates across E. Gibson Street. The lumber yard is still being served as the DL utilizes the old DH track to get to it where the DH station used to be. The tower sits on the corner of E. Gibson Street and Wyoming Avenue. Does anybody know anything about it? What it was used for, when it went out of service, etc. While it is no longer used for railroad purposes and is kind of beat up it looks like somebody has worked on it. There was still electric running into the street box at least as late as last summer.Image

In Lansdale, PA, the Reading Railroad had a crossing "tower" at the approach to the Lansdale Station. It was removed by SEPTA just about two years ago.

You can follow the removal of it (start at the last entry, work backwards): http://www.trainweb.org/phillynrhs/RPOTD071025.html

That's interesting but i'd really like information on the Erie/D&H tower pictured above in Scranton. I haven't been able to find any anywhere.

I know, but figured you might've been interested in another story. To each his own.
