While in Genesee Junction (Chili, NY) today I spotted this:

Could it be for use on the LA&L?

The track train appears to be for LAL. They have dropped a lot of rail already, but they may not have completed the task the last time they came out. You can probably expect the LAL to commence more rail drops this weekend, so that it does not interfere with scheduled operations.

The rail train is most likely destined for the LAL, as Mike said.

And the LAL train? You saw that in Rochester Yard, too? That WOULD be unusual...

Which track was the rail train sitting on? Northside is CSX and South side is LALRR. Or was it over on the R&S end of the junction where it meets the LAL?

The rail train is parked on the center of the 3 sidings at Genesee Jct. The machinery end is directly behind (west) of a dozen or so syrup tankers/covered hoppers . The rail racks extend around the bend toward the connection with the R&S. I presume then this is LA&L??

I will post a few photos shortly...

well the way the train is parked the LAL would have to take it all the way to Lakeville and then start working northward. And since the train is parked right behind some tankers that look to be full im guessing the next time the LAL goes south from Genesee Junction theres a good chance it might be dragging along the rail-laying train with it. Might make for some cool photos.
