I don't have an exact date, but would say probably about 1975. We used to go up there nearly every weekend in 1974, 75, etc. to volunteer. Hallock wanted to turn the locomotive at both ends, but never got around to finding a turntable to put in at the Wolfeboro end. So the Sanbornville table was never used after all the work of getting it over there! When the new outfit took over the line, they quickly decided the steam loco was too much work and too expensive to run, so they got a diesel, and immediately what ridership there was began to fall off. Very sad.

Last time we were at Sanbornville, the turntable was movable, and there was no fence to prevent anyone from turning it by hand, or falling into the pit! The area seemed to be a teenage "hangout" and "drinkery". A perfect recipe for injuries and lawsuits!
