How do I get from zurich airport to bern central railway station?
I will be going to Switzerland for the first time and I will be landing at Zurich airport. I have seen that the airport has its own railway station but I can't seem to find any information about it. My destination is Bern Central Railway Station. How would I find the timetables? Are there trains at all times? How much would it approximately cost? Also, I'm only going to be in Bern for a week and then I'll be going back to Zurich Airport... Would it be advisable to get a travel card or would it not be worth the money? Thank you...

Here's a useful site.

In Switzerland you can get to any town by train, usually at least once an hour. Mainline trains go through airport stations.

An even better site that gives you timetables and stops along the way or side destinations.
http://www.bahn.com/i/view/USA/en/index.shtml or http://fahrplan.sbb.ch/bin/query.exe/en Just type in Zurich Airport and Berne....it will give you all the trains.

I always buy a country rail pass in the USA before I go overseas. The price for a five day unlimited 2nd Class pass (no need for 1st class) is often less than a one way ticket bought in-country. Check the pre bought country multi-day pass cost vs two one way trips Zurich/Berne bought in-country.

http://www.sbb.ch/en/home.html also check out the CITY TICKET (DAY PASS) (Tageskarte) option for Berne if you buy the rail ticket from the airport, as a supplement will get you all day pass/ses around Berne on tram, Ubahn, etc.

Berne http://zurich.angloinfo.com/information/70/trains.asp
The transport network in Berne (Bernmobil) operates three tram services, 19 bus and trolleybus services covering 120 kilometres Website http://www.bernmobil.ch/Seiten/aktuell/ ... 13&lang=de (Fahrplan+Netz then Liniennetz) is the route maps)
The S-Bahn Bern connects the suburbs of Berne with the central district. Trains leave the SBB main station in Berne.
For route details and schedule times: Click here http://www.s-bahn-bern.ch/fahrplaene-bi ... rplan.html
Single tickets, multiple ride passes, monthly or yearly passes are available. (Liniennetz is the route maps.)

If just going that one round trip Zurich to Berne, and no side trips, the in country tickets probably the best and then buy
Day Cards to get around Berne. However, if you're thinking of some side trips, the rail pass is the way to go. Been doing that myself each year for past 20 in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Denmark, Czech. Rail passes and day passes (Tageskarte) save LOTS of money

A single Zürich Airport-Bern ticket costs 104 CHF return, trains leave at minutes .13 and .40 each hour from 6.13 to 22.40 (there are later trains, but changing train in Zürich main station).

A list of rail passes for tourists can be found here: http://www.swisstravelsystem.ch/ (some must be bought outside Switzerland or at the border)
