Savannah already had the track in place along River Street (former NS freight track). Augusta would have to tear up streets to build new track. I'd be thrilled to see it happen, because Augusta is only a two-hour drive away, but I'm not holding my breath. Studies are dime a dozen.

Augusta is not a large city, and from what I can tell in my visits there it has a pretty weak economy. you have to give the city merit for having the vision though. this area has a very low cost of living compare to elsewhere, even in georgia. maybe they have some grand plan to get Northeasterners to move to this area.
