Odd front trucks on UP 9175

I was looking at some pics I took yesterday and noticed that UP 9175 has different trucks on the front as opposed to the rear. They look like as though they came off a U30C or C30-7. The rear trucks are the standard Dash 8 ones. Another UP unit like this is C41-8W 9416.

apparantly these are from the trade-ins and maybe from old spare truck frames during rebuilding. On Dash 8 40C, these seem to be quiet common, I think Overland model even had a version with one GSC truck and one Adirondack truck just like the one shown.

Neat pic! Brings back memories, albeit fading, of our 4165 or 75. She was a U-34-CH with one of each style GE six-axle truck GSC / Adirondack.

Well, does anyone have an idea what locomotive the front truck came off? I did check out pics of U30C's and C30-7's, and their trucks are a little different. A really old GE they came off perhaps? Will dig up a pic of the 9416 and post as well.

Kind of looks like an ALCo./MLW Defosco truck, but don't quote me on that.

Maybe that truck was a homemade one. At least one BNSF GP30u has a homemade fuel tank that is more angled than a stock GP30 fuel tank.

The front truck shown in the picture of the 9175 that EMD_SD_60 (who let someone with THAT name onto the GE forum? (Grin!)) posted has a ridge over the center axle: this was a spotting feature of the Adirondack version of the GE FB-3 used, ummm, in the U-boat era.
(Question: Adirondack continued to supply truck castings to GE long after that. Does anyone know when they modified the design to eliminate the ridge? ... The easiest spotting feature for differentiating LATER Adirondack and GSC castings is the location of the round hols in the sideframes: midway between center and end axles on the GSC version, closer to the ends on the Adirondack... unless I've got that backward.)

many if not all units from UP's first order of C40-8's rode on older Adirondack trucks from retired UP U30C's. The Adirondack and GSC trucks are virtually the same though the truck frame casting was different so they do not look identical. As time has gone on and units required truck changes its not uncommon to find one of each type truck on a UP C40-8 or C40-8W.

Five different types of FB-3 trucks were used on U-boats and Dash-7's, and these were often reused in trade-ins.

The front truck on UP 9175 is an early Adirondack design that has been modified to accept high-mounted brake cylinders (I'm not aware of any that were originally built that way).

Casting a truck of one's own and fabbing a fuel tank are quite different tasks!

Aside from our lone U-34 with mixed trucks, I recall a few CR U-boats that received the same treatment.
