What are they doing down there? A vacation from Browns in beautiful South Jersey? :-D

The two CSX units migrate back and forth between Pavonia and Browns from time to time. I don't get down to Pavonia very often, but I have seen them there myself a couple of times. Don't forget that all of the former Conrail SD45-2's are assigned to CSAO Operations.

Sean,

You are kinda correct, but not entirely true......The CSXT 8886 and the CSXT 8889 are ex EL SD45-2, but they are designated as SD40-2. So CSX uses these 2 units generally in road freights systemwide.....

Steve,

I suspect Sean meant to say "Don't forget that all of the former Conrail SD45-2's that are still SD45-2's are assigned to CSAO Operations."

I was on my way to Deepwater/Carneys Point Saturday morning looking for the power that brought in NS 506 very early Saturday morning. I aborted my search when I saw northbound CA-11 and chased it back to Paulsboro.

I repeated my NS 506 search on Sunday and found the power in the expected location. The power was NS SD60I 6720 in Conrail Blue, BNSF SD70MAC 9439, and NS C40-9W 9504.

That's exactly what I meant. The 8973 & 8974 are the only two left that haven't been rebuilt. All of the SD45-2's NS got have been rebuilt at Juniata already. CSX retired the 8976 earlier this year along with the 8972, the last of the Clinchfield SD45-2's on their roster. Sorry for being vague with the details. The NS units do tend to be in New Jersey frequently though, especially up in Newark.

I have seen more of the NS units in the northern New Jersey area than the CSX ones. But sometimes, a little patience pays off.

In March, I saw CSX SD45-2 8973 bringing the SA42 (Browns Yard to Oak Island and back) into Browns Yard.

Then, in May, the SA42 had two NS SD45-2s, the 1703 & 1701. Seeing the 1703 was really cool for me as that was the last NS SD45-2 I needed a photo of. I considered it an early birthday present. From what I was told, it spent quite some time in switching service at Oak Island Yard.
