Anybody up in the South Plainfield area see the five car consist sitting way back off of the road in the yard up there? So far back that the last car, a hopper, was off the end of the rail in the dirt. Well they were cut up this week on the siding that crosses Belmont ave, way down at the end. Gone are three hoppers, one still lettered in Erie Lackawanna, a cast steel flat car, (when was the last time you saw one of those?) and CR N5c #23144. As is always the case, the whereabouts were not known until the last minute when it was too late to raise the funds to save these cars. But on the slavage companies behalf, they did allow us to salvage some much needed parts from the N5C for our restoration of our car. It is truly a shame that there isn't a way to pool monies for just this purpose. And since they had sat for so long, they were not road worthy so moving them would have to be done by over the road hauler, not down the line. Sad, very sad.

Later!

Do you mean the track just next to (southwest of) Metuchen Rd?
I think that "siding" is the actual old LV Perth Amboy line (the original
LV main before the more modern line from the yard up to
Oak Island, etc, was constructed).

How far down were the cars? To be honest I don't know
where the rails ended.

Yeah, that is the LV Perth Amboy Line. It is currently a MOW yard.
