The Cape May Seashore Lines initiated Saturday-only service between Tuckahoe and Richland on October 15.

The train had CNJ GP7 1523 with NYC lounge car 37 and P-RSL Budd RDC M-410.

The first train to leave Richland for Tuckahoe departed on time at 11:30 and was nearly full. It was a great start for the new service.

Great pics as always Bob?

A picky question for anyone who might know - Since CMSL has, I believe, common carrier status and (from the pics) obviously operates over public crossings at grade - how do they justify/get away with not having ditch lights on the locomotive?

They do not exceed the maximum allowed speed for negotiating public crossings at grade without ditch lights.

As per section 229.125 of Title 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations...

"(d) Effective December 31, 1997, each lead locomotive operated at a
speed greater than 20 miles per hour over one or more public highway-
rail crossings shall be equipped with operative auxiliary lights, in
addition to the headlight required by paragraph (a) or (b) of this
section. A locomotive equipped on March 6, 1996 with auxiliary lights in
conformance with Sec. 229.133 shall be deemed to conform to this section
until March 6, 2000. All locomotives in compliance with Sec. 229.133(c)
shall be deemed to conform to this section. ...
(h) Any locomotive subject to Part 229, that was built before
December 31, 1948, and that is not used regularly in commuter or
intercity passenger service, shall be considered historic equipment and
excepted from the requirements of paragraphs (d) through (h) of this
section."
