M9 and M9A Procurement & Acceptance

The following pairs have been added into service since June: 9125-9126, 9127-9128, 9145-9146, 9149-9150 and 9191-9192.
 Awaiting service entry are the following pairs: 
9013-9014 (nearly 5 1/2 years on property), 9015-9016 (has not seen service since sometime in Mid 2020), 9093-9094​,
​​​9095-9096, 9173-9174, 9175-9176, 9183-9184, 9189-9190, 9193-9194, 9195-9196 9197-9198, 9199-9200, 9201-9202. 26 cars (13 Pairs)

Thanks for the update Jake. Do you know what the problems were with 9013-14 and 9015-16 that kept them out-of-service all this time.

Anyone here remember the discussion of unpowered trailers from the M-9A order? I found a document from 2020 stating something extremely interesting.

"In September 2018, LIRR terminated its first M-9A procurement effort in order to issue a new
two-step RFP which added the following additional scope to the original M-9A procurement:
Locomotive Hauled Married Pair (LHMP)"

It seems they are/were intended to be interim passenger coaches, as opposed to MU Trailer cars like the M8s. Apologies if this is old news.

Hi, new to this forum.

9179-9180 have been seen by itself at Woodside, likely testing, despite having already entered service. Any information would be appreciated.

I've created my own spreadsheet to keep track of the M3s, relevant M7s, and M9s. Let me know if anything should be added or changed and if any other lists already exist.

There are at least four M9 cars seen at the Kawasaki plant in Yonkers, New York.

“The MTA is actively engaged in negotiations for the procurement of M9A cars,” said MTA spokeswoman Joana Flores to the Post. “This procurement has been significantly delayed predominantly due to changes in market conditions and the direct and residual impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

When did M9 set 9087-9088 enter service? It was last mentioned as testing, but never mentioned here as entering service (I think). It's running right now.

Ben, refer to Jeff Erlitz's roster for complete M-7 delivery dates and M-9s delivered up to January 2022.

9174 and 9173 are leading on "M9TEST" heading QNS > RON. M9 test train. Other cars unknown.

It's been a decade already since the reward... On the other side of things, the number of M9As predicted to be needed as part of the 20 year plan has gone up to as much as 340 units. Alot more than the base 160. Replying to a previous comment. 9087-9088 has been in service quite a while, I believe we have also never seen 9163-9164.

M9 9198 appears to still be at the Yonkers plant.

M9 9200 has been seen at Yonkers plant.

M9 9193-9194 has entered service.

M9 9095-9096 have entered service.

Pairs 9163-9164 and 9175-9176 have entered service. 20 cars (10 pairs) remain to be accepted.
