No photographs of the demolition?

Nassau Tower, gone but not forgotten. Classic railroad structure at a key point on the mainline, pictured with every conceivable piece of motive power on our LIRR.

Iconic.

There’s plenty of photos. Give it time and they will be posted by their rightful owners.

Apparently it was hastily constructed on a bed of overturned rails and ties or so one of the people there recalled being uncovered after the “act” was committed.

I know it’s not the same. But you all know a rebuilt Nassau south of the platform at platform hight could be done with enough interest.
And probably cheaper than relocating it.
Coffee house? Police booth? It would need to have a purpose not just a foamers club house.
At least it would
Make mineola look more “complete” with the structure restored.
But LIRR won’t build it or maintain it.
Give it a try? Bet there isn’t enough interest.

Thank you for posting. At least it's closure.

Todays Newsday has an article about the tower but it’s behind a paywall.

Does anyone have pictures of the spur that branched off southward from Mineola towards Old Country Rd and Stewart Ave?
