Full service will resume and fare hikes will take effect in the coming weeks, the Maryland Transit Administration announced Monday.

MARC train and commuter bus schedules will resume full service on Aug. 30....

MTA fare increases that are mandated by a law passed in 2013 will take effect on June 27. MARC train and commuter bus one-way fares will increase by $1. Under the 2013 state law, fares for commuter bus and MARC are reviewed every five years.

A fare increase is also taking effect on June 27 for MTA light rail, local bus and Metro subway. However, the governor authorized funds to be allocated from the American Relief Plan Act of 2021. The MTA said that will help mitigate the continuing economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and offset the impact associated with implementing a legislatively mandated fare increase.

As a result, core service riders will continue to pay $1.90 and Mobility riders will continue to pay $2.10 through June 26, 2022.

The light rail, local bus and Metro subway fares will then to increase by 10 cents to $2, and Mobility single-trip fares will increase to $2.20.

VRE has already resumed full service but is not raising fares.
VRE also usually raises fares every 2 years, but due to the pandemic, they are not raising fares.
I don't think it is a good time to raise fares.
I don't know if VRE will raise fares next year

Unfortunately, MARC has to raise them. State legislature mandate says it has to reanalyze fares every five years, and it was due last year. Governor Hogan put in the exec order to delay it, though... and it hits this year now.
