Hello,
Today's SLQ Extra 393 West departed Island Pond at 0832 with a bit of an unusual train:
GP40-2 3035
1 hi-sided gondola
5 tank cars
19 propane cars
That's 25 cars total, all empties. Despite only have one unit, they had no problem cruising uphill out of Island Pond. I don't know why they only had the single locomotive (maybe troubles with the other units), as it is atypical to have only a single unit on a road train.
By the way, RLHH SD40-2 3403 was already back on-line in Lewiston Junction on the morning of January 18th. I always wondered why they don't send 6 axles to one of their sister roads (e.g. NECR St. Albans) for work , rather than using PAR's Waterville Shop, but maybe it is due to the quick turnaround time and reduced transit costs?
Have a great day,
Fritz
