WASHINGTON — Only two years after the D.C. Streetcar launched, the District is seriously considering a long-term plan to replace its vehicles.

In responses prepared for a D.C. Council hearing Tuesday — which happens to be the two-year anniversary of the first passengers’ trips down H Street NE — the District Department of Transportation said there have been problems already with getting spare parts to complete repairs in a timely manner. One manufacturer is out of business, and the other is overseas, so the issues are likely to continue.
Given the status of OIW/UtdStreetcar, and the rocky Inekon and Skoda relationship, this was probably predictable, but for the sake of any chance of future projects being carried forward one would hope that of the other agencies who run 10Ts or US models might be tempted to pay something more than scrap value to reinforce their own fleets

This entire boondoggle of a "project" should be simply cancelled. Cut our losses now. it was a joke from day one, will never be complete, will never be sustainable, and will never be a good idea here. The city is too inept, and they keep proving it over and over with this one stupid project. Just put it out of its misery, and sell the scrap.
