Awarded Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Washington D.C. Rail Security Corridor (DCRSC) Contract
Thursday June 30, 7:12 pm ET

PORTSMOUTH, Va., June 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Epsilon Systems Solutions, Inc. (Epsilon) has been awarded a contract by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to provide design, manufacturing, and installation of a system to enhance security along railroad lines that pass through Washington, DC.
The DCRSC contract awarded by DHS has a value of $9.8 million and includes integration of several surveillance technologies, including intelligent video and radio frequency identification (RFID). Epsilon's Marine, Industrial and Security Technology Sector has supported DHS since early 2004 with installation of buffer zone surveillance systems at chemical plants throughout the country. The Epsilon team for the DCRSC Project includes Duos Technologies, Inc. (Duos), headquartered in Jacksonville, FL. Duos has been at the leading edge of technology development for intelligent video and associated products and has established a solid performance record on several high visibility airport, railroad, and hospital security projects.

"We are excited about the opportunity to integrate cutting edge technology into a system that will allow DHS, law enforcement, and railroad personnel to monitor this critical stretch of rail line for suspicious and threatening activity. We anticipate that this system will become a valued piece of the overall railroad security infrastructure and a candidate for enhancing security along metropolitan rail lines across the country. Led by our Marine, Industrial and Security Technology Sector, this effort will complement our chemical plant buffer zone protection work for DHS. It also provides a wonderful opportunity for us to continue to support DHS initiatives to harden elements of our nation's critical infrastructure against terrorist attack," said Bryan Min, Chief Executive Officer.

Wow, pretty interesting, although this is a bit overdue, especially citing the closeness of the US Capitol to some of the rail lines that CSX uses to haul chemicals on their freight trains that use those tracks.

I am not really convinced that this is money being well spent. They can
saturate an area with security and still miss something.
Key bridges, tunnels and other installations need to be protected but I do
not think they need to spend sums of this magnitude to accomplish that.
