14R was into Deerfield early this morning with a CP SD60 and SOO SD60 6061 sandwiching 2 3400's. Not many SOO painted SD60's left.

POED came in with 347-3001-601-606-321-514-313.

EDRJ has the 609-505-8955.

EDPL train made up.

Spent most of the day today around Deerfield, hoping for better luck than last Thursday. Arrived around 0900 and found BFED ready to come in at CPF 385. They had the 374-3109 and 15 cars. 5 of which were Omya slurry. BFED seems to be lucky they even made it down last night. Patrols found a bunch of washouts behind them on the NECR this morning. #55/#56 cancelled. After BFED, EDRJ was ready to leave town. They had 335-501-503-328 and 75 cars. I ended up chasing them east to Buckland, they had a helluva time making Shelburne Hill as the 501 died on them. Meanwhile ED8 was turning their power on the loop with the 8955-516. They ended up going east with around 30 cars. EDRJ made the 112 bridge around 1150, where they met 14R. 14R had the NS 9451-8399-9464 and 77 cars, around 20 P&W gons in the train. 14R got down to CPF 385 for a recrew around 1300. Back at the yard, ED4 was working up EDPL with the 333 and, ED1 was working up a 46 car EDPO with the 5000-517. At 1310 ED9 arrived with the 610 solo and 33 cars. EDPL departed at 1400 with the PW 2010-519 and 15 cars. They are picking up a loaded welded rail train for the Amtrak Springfield line project at CPR 33. In and around the pit were, 321-601-612. The following appear stored, 6528-2964-3001-3012-3011.

I make it to ED occasionally, not a lot of vantage points and the sun is not the photographer's friend there. Wondering what the current "schedule" is there to maximize my experience?

This morning EDAY crew cabbed west to take an empty Ethanol train to New York and EDRJ crew cabbed east to take POED into Deerfield. Eastbound crew cabs west, westbound crew cabs east. Both have to cab a 100 miles to their hotel when done. Makes sense right? The inmates are running the asylum.

There's always the chance that the inmates would do a better job than the power structure.

Maybe when Governor LePage privatizes the Maine State Prison system, the new corporate overlords can partner with Pan Am and use the inmates to repair locomotives and do MoW work for $1/hr.

Word is the bridge switch (that's the crossover from the Class to the R yard) was pretty well decimated and there are no parts on hand. It's a 115# manual throw with a very long radius, not common at all. More like a power switch. EDPO this morning was shoved out the west end and then went east on the main.

Just found this non-time-stamped blurb on NS Shipping News & Alerts corporate web page:
Pan Am Railway Derailment Near Deerfield, MA

At approximately 8:00pm tonight, Pan Am Railway reported a derailment on their main line near Deerfield, MA (approximately 80 miles east of Albany, NY). Pan Am personnel are enroute to assess the damage and begin repairs. Train 23K-10 (Ayer to Chicago) is currently being blocked by the derailment and is expected to incur transit and availability delays of at least 12 hours.

We will provide updates as more details become available.

Anyone know any details? Is this the same issue as the yard lead being torn up mentioned previously?

Dunno when it transited EDY, but 28N was holding at CPF-GL at 0700/05-13-2016.

I think this derailment is going to attract more than the usual attention from NS.
