Hi everybody,

I'm a user of the American RR forum, so I don't know so much about Canadian RRs. Therefore, these questions may seem pretty stupid:

1. What is the RDC rebuilding status?
2. Does Via have all 4 (Main) types of RDCs operating (Even their RDC-3 and -4)?
3. I am pretty sure that these operate in British Columbia, but is there any chance of seeing one in the Indiana to NYC region?

Thanks,

TJ

VIA RDC are only operate in western Canada (BC),they have RDC-1,RDC-4 (baggages and passengers) I'm not sure, regards to the other models..
RDC do not go across the US/Canada border..only other place where we can have chance to see some RDC,it when they do a transfert for refurbishing or for repairs..they put at the tail end of VIA Canadian, then,Toronto to Montreal and after,on the VIA Ocean..

have a look on this link to VIA Rail webside, where you can found more infos about RDC
http://www.viarail.ca/en/about-via-rail ... et-rebuild" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

and only other place where we can see and ride RDC,it's on the Orford Express in Quebec eastern townships

The only RDCs currently operated by VIA are used on the Sudbury - White River route in Northern Ontario. This route normally uses a consist of one RDC-2 and one RDC-4. There was a trial run using a pair of RDCs on the route between Jasper and Prince Rupert BC but that didn't work out so well and the consist has been sitting in the Vancouver Maintenance Centre for a while. You can read the earlier posts on this for more information.

The other traditional route that uses RDCs on Vancouver Island between Victoria and Courtenay BC has been out of service for a few years.

sometime, they put them on the corridor for transfert, and after, they send them to New-Brunswick for works, then they come back to their original affectation..

He just said so! :-P

Also -and others correct me if I'm wrong- but Industrial Rail in New Brunswick owned/owns a fair number of ex-VIA RDC-1s, 2s, maybe 3s, and I think 4s too with the intention of refurbishing them for lease/sale to VIA and others.

Yes, 6917 is the LRC. Shame things ended for those the way they did, rather than becoming NPCUs or something similarly useful.

As for Industrial Rail - am not sure what they own or don't since their financial issues. Their factory facility is being offered for sale.

Incidentally the background to that picture is GO Transit/Metrolinx' Willowbrook Yard, with the Oakville Sub mainlines in between.

The remains of "Industrial Rail" have been sold at auction,as of 01/08/16 the(ex?) VIA RDC's are being scrapped
at that site!
Jason of Rapido Trains has saved from that scrap line VIA 6133,a former CP RDC-1.
Jason sent out a "newsletter" today(01/24/16) announcing that save.

I saw this - very cool. It notes that they need $25k to move the RDC. At first I was curious why so much, but it turns out they're shipping via flatcar. Cranes aren't cheap... Anybody know why the car can't be moved in a freight train? They moved the last car (An ex-CN/VIA sleeper found in Georgia) by freight train.

By now any air brake inspection for this RDC is long out of date, condition of wheel bearings is unknown,
new owner of the site wants it gone ASAP,that's why the flat car.
