Lol folks about the erroneous info about the genset. I'm more out of the freight loop today than at its forefront.

I remember when NYA first started and they got bit by that interchange rule. They accepted a tank car from Conrail that looked like the end was bashed in with a utility pole. At the time, they just accepted practically everything. When the car was emptied, Conrail refused to take it, and NYA was subject to paying for the repair.

Soon afterward, they had car inspectors for all of the interchanges.

So NJNY is on the hook for the replacement wheelsets? Has NY+A refused the Genset at interchange
at Bay Ridge?

For what it's worth this is what the thing looks like:

Pretty ugly looking beast except for the paint job. At least it's not based off a gp30 rebuild - that thing looks even more hideous: http://www.railserveleaf.biz/photo_gallery.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

More about it here:

Sounds like a good for the work it'll be doing, though who knows how well these things hold up. RSSX does seem to have a lot of these in service though so I'd imagine they're somewhat reliable.

I found some more pictures of RSSX 3766, if that’s the same one that’s at the 65th Street yard.

One thing I noticed is the engine doesn't have ditch/crossing lights.

Wouldn’t that mean the train would be restricted to 20 MPH across grade crossings?

not the best looking engine but hope it works out well for them. Did they buy this engine or are the leasing it?

Railleaf locos are "replacement" units for 4 axle Switcher type locos(SW-1000,SW-1500 types),
believe based on GP-7 or GP-9 frames.

Happen to pass BRT on the LIE Friday. One of the lease engines is still operating there. Saw it pulling or pushing a string of cars into what I believe was the Home Depot warehouse.

i would guess it will go to the njt wheel shop in kearny. this state-of-the-art shop is amazing. and an inexpensive option to changing out wheels.
as for utilization at brt. it is too light to handle the stone cars. the trackage doesn't offer the luxury of moving a few loads at a time. while the visibility and operating costs are superior to the gp38's it is the wrong choice. having a cat engine does solve the freezing problems of emd power-you can use anti-freeze. but the hp and weight will make operations costly and limited.
the original concept was to handle 30 stone cars per day. it's clear that will never happen. ken patrick

Passed 65th st. yesterday - looks like it has gone back to NJ. No sign of it.

I think it'll be awhile before BRT's up to full speed & requires more power.

The 1010 may be shipped out as early as Friday night after being inspected by the NYA.

Sounds like it. I assume it's going out via csx since 'prime' was such a pain in the rear for NYNJRR to move?

Does BRT keep a trackmobile or something else around for back up?
