I am looking for a little history on this line that ran between Kinkora and Fort Dix, NJ. Though the tracks are gone, the ROW is noticeable, and rails still remain at some grade crossings.

Any facts or photos would be great! :-D

Both of John Brinckmann's books, The Pemberton and Hightstown and The Tuckerton Railroad provide some information on the Kinkora Branch. I believe South Jersey Magazine, a now deceased local history periodical out of Millville, New Jersey, also carried an article or two about the line. There are no definitive histories available on just the Kinkora Branch.

Stop by the Pemberton train station. There's a gentleman there (forgot his name) that can provide oyu with some information.

I first read about the Kinkora and New Lisbon as well as the Untion Transportation Company (UTC) from Henry Charlton Beck in "Forgotten Towns of Southern NJ"

Here's another organization that might help: http://www.nelliebly.com/

Hope this helps.

I remember the scrapped rails sitting alongside Mill Road in Columbus, late 1970's. There was also an old rail tunnel under the main road (Rt 543) that was filled in about 25 years ago. Aside from the "Railroad Avenue" sign it was hard to find any indication of the route even back then. These days I am sure it is all overgrown and hidden.

Here's a schedule of passenger trains through Kinkora:

Kinkora was not only served by the about linked line (which was originally the Camden and Amboy before being absorbed by the PRR), but also was served by a PRR line from Kinkora to New Lisbon. This is shown on the following map:

The Kinkora to New Lisbon Line crossed the Pemberton to Hightstown line at Lewistown. The P&H line was later known as the Union Transportation Co. and served Camp Dix (later Fort Dix). More at: http://railroad.net/forums/viewtopic.ph ... +dix#86105
