Pittsburgh Maglev project

This $2.3 Billion for the design of a Maglev train for the Pittsburgh downtown airport sounds cool, but also stupid and absurd.

How about spending those funds on a 225MPH TGV train linking Philadelphia to Pittsburgh? Or better yet. NYC to Philadelphia?

This sounds about as useful as New York's Super Steel Turboliner rebuilds!

The only one in operation is in Shanghai, which is no doubt much busier than Pittsburgh. I gather that not even that one is entirely successful.

A very short one in Birmingham (UK) worked well for several years but was not high speed and connected the rail station with the airport. It was removed and replaced with a conventional wheel on rails shuttle.
