I haven't ridden since the MBRRE excursion to Torrington, but they probably stop at the Fascia's Chocolate Shop. See https://fasciaschocolates.com/. I highly recommend their butter crunch!

The 2 pm train makes a 20 minute stop at Fascia's in Waterville. That stop is at the southern end of the regular trip, at the Waterville run-around track. The Fascia's stop is in addition to the regular 1 hour-15 minute round trip out of Thomaston; the 2 pm trip therefore runs a little longer.

Much of this line between Thomaston and East Litchfield never had regular passenger service because the regular passenger trains came off before the new line over the dam was finished. I hope this is a prelude to more Torrington trips in the future.

Is this the first time they have run to Torrington?

There's been occasional trips to Torrington over the years, but IIRC nothing regular.
I rode the Mass Bay RRE trip a couple years ago and it covered the entire railroad, end-to-end. Once you get up to East Litchfield, the scenery becomes less rural and more of a backyard urban environment up to the end of track.

Here is another opportunity to ride from Thomaston to Torrington and back. It is a ride well worth doing.

RMNE to Feature Gary Gurski

THOMASTON, CT – April 16, 2019 – The Railroad Museum of New England’s Speaker Series continues later this month with a presentation by Gary Gurski, who worked for 22 years from 1970 to 1992 on the Penn Central, Conrail, and Providence and Worcester railroads. The event will be held at Thomaston Station, 242 East Main Street, Thomaston, on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at 4:00PM. The presentation is free and open to the public.

According to RMNE President Steve Casey, Mr. Gurski will share his experiences with a slide show as brakeman, conductor, and engineer on the Hartford to Springfield Line, Canal Line from New Haven to Holyoke, Highland Line from Waterbury through Bristol to Plainville, and the Naugatuck Line from Derby through Waterbury to Torrington.

Just watched them roll through Ashland, VA. They look like junk. Both came from the Hampton & Branchville in South Carolina, a now mostly-dormant coal hauler. Both are nee-N&W, #686 and 859. The carried reporting marks for a locomotive parts dealer out of PA (GOMX) before being stenciled for NAUG. Spare first-gen EMD parts sources? Trying to get B&M 1732 running?................... or maybe they're gonna "DeWitt Geep" their RS-3's?

Both units are out of Selkirk today on B767-08, which I believe is the interchange
run to Rotterdam Jct for Pan Am.
