I am a NYC Transit Track Inspector, and I would like to get my hands on a FRA track safety standards manual. I have a .pdf version, which I could print out, but I'd prefer something already put together. I'm looking to leave NYCT for a railroad career, so I'd better learn the material. In addition, are there any railroad accident investigation manuals available? I have only found ones covering aircraft and highway incidents. Thanks.

The FRA track standards are listed in 49 cfr 213 you can print them from here :
http://www.access.gpo.gov/nara/cfr/wais ... v4_05.html
this link has all FRA rules for railroad operations.
The FRA rules do not apply to subways however, as they are not part of general railway system of United States.

For accident invesigations see:

DutchRailnut,

I did not expect a guy from Holland to be first to answer my question about American RRs. That's cool. Thanks for the info. The link to FRA 213 you sent is more condensed than the one I found online, so it should require less printing. You are right about transit systems not using the FRA standards. The specs are similar, but since I hope to cross over into a railroad, I'd like to become familiar with the FRA material. Thanks, again.
