NS selling B40-8's to CSX?

Earlier this month, NS retired all 18 of the B40-8 units that it acquired from Conrail, following the expiration of their leases. The units have since all been leased from their owner by CSX and all 18 have been shipped to CSX. Here is a look at the the former NS and Conrail numbers for the 18 units, as well as the new CSXT numbers and the paint scheme they were in at the time of disposition by NS:

NS 4800 (former Conrail 5063) = CSXT 5962 -- painted in ==NS black
NS 4801 (former Conrail 5064) = CSXT 5963 -- painted in Conrail blue
NS 4802 (former Conrail 5066) = CSXT 5964 -- painted in Conrail blue
NS 4803 (former Conrail 5067) = CSXT 5965 -- painted in Conrail blue
NS 4804 (former Conrail 5068) = CSXT 5966 -- painted in ==NS black
NS 4805 (former Conrail 5069) = CSXT 5967 -- painted in NS horsehead black
NS 4806 (former Conrail 5072) = CSXT 5968 -- painted in ==NS black
NS 4807 (former Conrail 5073) = CSXT 5969 -- painted in Conrail blue

Cool, another modeling opportunity. Reminds me of the ten C32-8s Norfolk Southern had after they got four from CSXT. So will CSXT just patch the units and give them a new number?

Well there's going to be 7 black locomotives on CSX. Should be interesting to see.

There goes my attempt to photograph all the NS B40's. I had a 7 or 8 of them so far.

i got them all , the photos are on my site.

Here is 4806 before and after. It would be cool to put CSXT stencils over the black paint, give it the Penn Central treatment, or expose the Norfolk Southern decals with some paint thinner.

B40's are my favorite engines. I liked them in the NS black, but not the horsehead scheme. They look good in the CSX Dark Future scheme, so hopefully they will be around for awhile.

always liked them... black or blue was good.

Had always hoped to see them down here on the h-02... oh well.

They actually did show up on H-02 on a few occassions back in 2000 or 2001. I have a few pictures of some switching out Dairy Pack before they closed. They are good engines..

4804 was on H-02 in December of 2004 as well.

I'll try to share my NS SD40-2 picture next week. I got the 34XX when it was sitting in East Dover.
