Let me blow the dust off this topic. I drove down Broadway Rd. in Persia and to my surprise it appears the railroad has been worked on. The brush was cut and pile of stones on the rails are clear. I didn't have time to stop and NY&LEs facebook page doesn't have any updates. Are they re-opening the line to Setterstix?

That coach is an ex Nickle Plate car that is going to North East, PA. It is owned by the Lake Shore Chapter and was one of the cars used in filming of Planes, Trains and Automobiles. It was supposed to have been on the road, but delays in lifting the car put off the move for several weeks. The group is having Viscose #6 visit the museum at North East over August 17 and 18th so they did not want to fill up anymore track space until after.

Hello everybody,
I passed by the Broadway Rd crossing today and by the looks of it they have really went to town on clearing all of the brush from the r.o. w. They have cleared about 25 feet feet wide and it looks like they have done the entire portion of the line from Dayton towards the washout outside of Cattaraugus. I heard a rumor over the winter that Mr. Dingman was trying to get FEMA funding to rehabilitate the line but I haven't heard much after that, maybe they received some funding and they can work on fixing that washout. As you pass through Cattaraugus there is no sign of any brush clearing as of yet.

Also I'm not sure if anyone caught this in the STERA minutes for June, but the city of Jamestown has applied for a TIGER grant in order to bring the southern tier line up to specifications for passenger rail on top of reinstalling the switch in Waterboro and rehabbing parts of the NYLE line so that excursions can be ran from the Jamestown train station.

Once I can upload pictures I have a picture of the '' Contrak'' coach all loaded up in Gowanda ready to head down to North East.

The train rides that were planned for the 7th and 8th were a success! Both rides from Gowanda to South Dayton were sold out and I believe the 4 train rides from South Dayton to Dayton were pretty much sold out as well. I was great to see myself and other rail fans going from crossing to crossing to get some great pictures of those FA's plugging up Dayton hill towards South Dayton. I will post my album of pictures up as soon as they are done uploading, but here is one of my favorites that I took on Sunday morning.

thebigham wrote:^Thanks. Did you take any pics of the Gowanda yard?
I didn't get any pictures of the Gowanda yard, I started taking pictures just up the line from the yard. Are there any specific pictures that you would like, I can stop by one evening if at all possible and grab some shots.

Here is a link to all of my pictures that I took last weekend I haven't taken any of the bad ones out yet so you'll have to scroll through the bad ones.

On a side note as I was driving through Dayton down the hill I noticed that they have an excavator with a mower as well as a bulldozer on the Cattaraugus line. It makes me wonder if they were using that dozer to clear the r.o.w. or to push material into the washout just outside of Cattaraugus. They haven't announced anything online as of yet.

^I just haven't been there in years: http://photos.greatrails.net/show/?orde ... ake%20Erie" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Last year they cleaned up the yard and scrapped some equipment.

I think the old coach at the Commercial St crossing was scrapped: http://binged.it/1eBxZZk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The view at Google Maps seems to show the cleaned up yard, but the satellite photo is blurry: http://goo.gl/maps/W6CXW" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The coach seems to be gone with Google street view: http://goo.gl/maps/pKcuz" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I just did some digging:

Tim Heckman photos:

The cleaned up Gowanda yard:

Here's that Contrack coach in the brush last year:

Edit: So maybe it was not scrapped.

That particular Contrack coach is still sitting in the same place. It looks like within the past month or so they added some new plywood over some of the windows. Does anyone have any idea as to who owns this coach and what the plans are for it?

This is a picture of the one that was getting shipped down to North East all loaded up. Sorry for the windshield glare!
