Name Trains

Hoiw many "name" train did the Seashore Lines have? Any time period is good. I know there was The Boardwalk Flyer, The Barnacle Bill, The Fisherman's Special,The Blue Comet for a bit. Come on gang,dig the names out!!

How about The Nellie Bly?

Neither the Nellie Bly nor the Blue Comet were P-RSL trains. The Nellie Bly was a PRR train and the Blue Comet was a CRRofNJ train.

The P-RSL had : the Suntan, Sand and Surf, Boardwalk Flyer, Barnacle Bill, Fisherman's Special, Quaker City and others.

Yes, TR-OO--The Blue Comet and the Nellie Bly were not PRSL trains but I think what Steam Man is looking for here is what distinct named trains used the PRSL trackage.

PRSL had a train named "The Pony Express" taking horse racing fans directly to the racetrack. Confusingly the PRR had a train by the same name going to a different racetrack. And NJT is using the same name!

Actually, the two Pony Express trains were PRR trains, originating in Philadelphia and operating to the Atlantic City Race Track and the Garden State Race Track.

And please, friends, let's not forget that there is a hyphen in P-RSL.

That was on the property at the passenger station in Ocean City. Having been unfamiliar with P-RSL's operations, I don't know whether they were stored awaiting repair or just waiting for their next northbound trip.

I can't make out the numbers.

If your date is correct (8/4/74), then it seems to be an Sunday extra coming out of Pavonia. Hard to say exactly to where, but the gon in the front suggests possibly a Salem extra, with a block of cars to set out at Woodbury for WY-33 to pick up on Monday morning. Just a guess.

However, I took the liberty to browse through your Webshots album, and the next picture in the album was the one that really got my attention:

It's a closer shot (zoomed?) of the same train ---- That's me in the brakeman's seat on the 2000!

I think that first one is M413...I can't read the number on the second one. First is definitly M41x...that last digit looks most like a 3 than a 1 or a 2...

Yes, that was a zoom; I had a cheap 35mm camera with a small zoom capability.

Are you sure Bob? On "The Pony Express" passenger timetables it says Pennsylvania-Reading Seashore Lines on the bottom. Take a look at page 19 of the "PRSL in color" book. Also it says that these were PRSL trains but had PRR power on them. Just something I noticed
