Not sure which forum to post so I will try here. I found this interesting peice while metal detecting in eastern NC. I thought it to be a button but someone indicate it may be a older nail head. Was not found near a railroad. It is brass with rusted stub on the backside. Any thoughts?

possibly but not sure. Anyone with some early nail heads should be able to ID based on the size and font characteristics???? found in eastern NC but not sure of the raildroad company.
Could be a pole date nail. Found some copper types in IL and NY years ago stuck in C&S poles along railroad r/o/w.
