O.k., I just finished putting a few more pics up from my trip down to Brooklyn Roundhouse a couple of weekends ago.

On these:

I'd appreciate it if interested parties would take a look and see what they can see and describe to me any fittings, fixtures, or other recognizable "pieces" of significance (yes I know they're ALL significant, but I'm referring to being "of interest" to viewers), and get back to me here and let me know what you see.

Then, on this pic:

I'd like to know the name of this large pipe with "fan" on the end? I know it drains water out of the boiler, but I don't know its proper name? I see there's the same part on the opposite side view in the previous picture also.

And, on this picture here:

I'd like to know if someone can name and describe what those two floor mounted handwheel controls are and what they do as well as the lever alongside the Fireman's Seat? Also, there's some sort of "control" that's that chain that's coming up out of the tube there that has a slot cut in it to hold the chain in a certain position. What's that do?

Oh, and looky, there's a lever over on the wall, how about that?

Hehe, 64 Questions! Isn't this fun? Well some of you guys know it, I don't.

I will after I get clued in here...

Thanks in advance.

Bill, Based on the picture that I looked at (and my memory) the lever with the locking device next to the seat is the injector controller. The two valves forward of that are the injector waste valve and the fresh supply valve from the tender. The way I was taught to operate the injector was to open the waste valve first, allow some fresh water to run by and cool off the injector (it picks up better when it is cooler) , activate the injector , let it pick up the water ( and kick the check valve out of the way) and then close the waste valve. Adjust the water and injector as appropriate.

It's been 15 years since I fired her.

Wife calling me, will post more later.

Bill, That is the blowdown outlet. The blowdown valve drains water and sediment out of the mudring whch is the bottom or the foundation of the firebox.

Bill, Lot's going on here. Far left near trailer truck Remember the 4449 has a booster engine so I believe that the piping on the top of the truck is either a steam delivery pipe or the booster exhaust. THe long pipe coming straight down from the cab is the injector waste pipe, if my memory serves me. To the right of the ladder you have fresh water from the tender (the large hose, valve has the red handle) and I think the steam heat pipe for the oil in the tender. The 4449 was designed to run on bunker C oil as a worst case which would require preheating to let it flow and atomize properly . Cant remember exactly what is what.
