Prior to CNJ's pullout from PA, did LV use Allentown Yard for classification?
After 1972 when LV began regular operation via Allentown, were there thru
trains that used the original LV west of Bethlehem?
Thanks

In 1965, LV and CNJ started sharing Allentown Yard (as well as shared trackage between Lehighton and Laurel Run) in consolidation efforts to help stop financial bleeding. So yes, LV was classifying some trains from '65 through CNJ's evacuation of Pennsylvania.

Some trains that had no need to stop in Allentown used the original LV between Lehighton and Bethlehem, such as the Apollo trains. Or it was used as an alternate route when there were pile-ups on the CNJ side or other issues.

Lehigh Valley did use their smaller yards in the area before taking over the entire Allentown Yard after CNJ left. Those yards were Richards (east of Bethlehem), Calypso Yard (Bethlehem), East Penn (Allentown) and Packerton (Lehighton). After '72 those yards were pretty much left for dead.

Mike Bednar's LV Facilities books give excellent coverage as well as LV in Color 5 & 6 (also by Bednar),
