Job insurance DIPP, BRCF, or LECMPA?

All the discussions on income protection, aka job insurance, that I've been able to find were very old. I haven't had job insurance for a long time, and didn't feel the need for it, until recently when our management went through a "changing of the guard" and became more hostile toward labor.

I'm a SMART/UTU member and I've compared the published rates for SMART (UTU) DIPP (Discipline Income Protection Program) coverage, BRCF (Brotherhood’s Relief and Compensation Fund) and LECMPA (Locomotive Engineers and Conductors Mutual Protective Association) but what I'm after are some real-world experiences on claim settlement and general experience dealing with these various entities. Anyone have any good/bad anecdotal experiences to relate?

Ah, the ol' 'whammy' or run-off insurance! Wouldn't be without it! (If I was workin') Now I can tell 'em to %$$@* off!!!

I had a policy with LECMPA for decades. I didn't think it was necessary the first 10 years working. By the mid '80s times changed with the railroad mega-mergers. Thankfully I only had to use it one time right before I retired. I got 5 days in the street for leaving a train in the clear in a yard track but the violation fell under a new CSX rule at the time which required clearance point plus one car length. Even though a yardmaster instructed me to leave it where it was that another crew would be taking it shortly. Funny that YM suddenly had amnesia. That happens a lot. Doesn't matter YM's, TM's etc... they all protect themselves. LECMPA quickly paid the claim. There were some that had BRCF. Never heard of DIPP?
