Harrison: Train hits truck in Harrison 7.13.2014

Was the train on the regular Newark-bound track, or was it running reverse-direction on the track to Journal Square?

I am curious why a truck was anywhere near the running tracks.......

The headline of 'Train Hits Truck..." is infuriating. The truck hit the train! The truck no doubt got the worst of it, but the train was where it was supposed to be the -- the truck was not. Not colliding with a train is very easy. Trains run on tracks. If you don't go on tracks you will never be hit by a train. If the truck was hit by the train while sitting at a Dunkin Donuts drive through then I'd consider the headline accurate, otherwise, no.

But there are no PATH grade crossings open to public? How did this happen...?

Supposedly it was a contractor for Amtrak doing work in the vicinity.

It might have been running westbound on the eastbound track as single track operation is commonplace during weekend and midday construction. There is a crossing at the east end of Harrison Shop on the eastbound line.

I believe that crossing is protected by gates and flashers..........
