There is a gondola at Yaphank... reporting marks L&BR 3304. I searched a few websites... what railway is this from?

That damn thing is still there? wow..

Lowville & Beaver River Railroad.

It will remain there until someone fixes it!

Nova and I caught that car out there on April 7 of last year. It was sitting on the siding when the train arrived. The crew then split the engines, sandwiched the 3304 in between and ran around to the West end of the train. Don't know what they did after that, but an odd move nonetheless.

next dumb question... who fixes it? owner, Gershow(?), or NYA?

 #218282  by tushykushy

Aye, Joe, your forgetting me too.

Was interesting how that went back west. Had 261, that loner, then 268 with about 24 cars. Wierd consist.

A car is suppose to be interchanged in good condition, NY&A personal when taking charge of cars should note any discrepencies.
Once the car is accepted in interchange the host railroad is responcible for any repairs that keep car movable in interchange traffic.
So if this gondola has issues that need attention its NY&A that needs to fix it.

Is this gondola loaded or empty, and was it destined for Gershow in Medford before it was sidelined?

Its loaded with shredded steel. What struck me odd when i was with Emfinite ant TK last is is they ran teh car back west, why would it come back east to be bad ordered again?

That car was put in the team track back in November. If you saw a car there last April, it's a different car. I know it was put there in November because I was off that week, and it was there when I returned. (I find it funny that every time I go on vacation, and come back, there's a bulged gondola from Gershow out there. lol)

The L&BR gondola is leased to the NYAR. Since it's not a "hired" car, and they're not paying car hire on it, it's not a huge priority to management to fix it. (Even though they are still paying on the lease. I don't run the place, I just work there. )

As Dutch said, it's the responsibility of NYAR to fix the car. Their easy solution is to have a crew bring it back to Gershow to unload it (and bash the side back in.) Of course, that would mean blasting the platform at Yaphank, and the conductor (who is a pretty sharp guy in my book) won't do that without something on paper. It's been three months for that paper to be faxed...

Let's put our helmets on and get in the game, Fred, or whoever is running the show in Fresh Pond now! This derelict represents lost revenue and an obstacle to the road freight crews operating on the Main Line out east in Suffolk County. Send a crew out there to repair whatever needs to be fixed and get that Penn Central-era sack of shit out of there and on to it's destination, as Gershow intended it!!!!

Legio, if only they shared your sentiments and enthusiasm about fixing all the engines they have, let alone rolling stock! Jay, what about the 1st Response Rail service? Aren't they a MofE force working for the NYAR now?
