Police are trying to figure out whether the fire was the result of an accident or if it was intentionally set, the captain said.
May well be like the situation that happened at an old warehouse in Watertown a few years back where a fire was set, but not with the intention of burning the building down...

Saw a number of pictures on a local resident's FB page.

Auburn firefighters are 'pretty sure' they know the cause, and the joint investigation into Saturday's big fire at an historic building is focusing on three juveniles, who are still being questioned about the two-alarm fire.

The exterior of the building was still standing Monday, but large parts of the roof had collapsed, and the interior was scorched. "Keep out" and "danger" warnings in orange spray paint were written on the brick facade with yellow caution tape encircling the structure to keep people out.

AFD officials said the owners of the roundhouse have an environmental assessment company coming out to the scene Monday to conduct an evaluation. Once that assessment is completed, the fate of the building will be determined.

Depends on what era you are referring to.

In 1934 the LVRR operated 5 passenger trains in and out of Auburn: 293 (Sun only); 283 (daily exc. Sun); 281 (daily exc. Sun); 282 (daily) and 284 (Sun only). There was another pair of passenger trains that operated on the A&I in and out of Auburn, trains 301 and 302. Coal trains were operated through Auburn to the dock at North Fair Haven and there was at least one daily milk train plus general freight trains.

By 1940 passenger service was down to Nos. 282 and 283 (daily) plus 301 and 302. The coal trains were gone as the coal dock at North Fair Haven had been abandoned (1937). The milk train remained but was gone by 1947.

The September 1949 ETT shows just trains 282 and 283 by now second class trains.

During the summers of the 1950s several troop trains would operate to Auburn, carrying National Guard troops towards Camp Drum. The LVRR turned these trains over to the NYC in Auburn.

Believe there was a daily or 5x/wk freight train Sayre-Auburn into the mid-1960s plus another train over from Geneva in the mid-1960s. By 1966 the through train from Sayre was gone account Mead (Moravia)-Fleming was abandoned.

By the early 1970s all that was left was the the Geneva-Auburn turn as the last LVRR train into and out of Auburn. This train operated on Tuesdays and Thursdays on duty about 19:00.

Any additions or corrections are invited as some traffic may well have been missed.

Anyone know when the Auburn roundhouse was closed?

Auburn Police have charged three teenagers in connection with Saturday's fire that heavily damaged the vacant Lehigh Valley Railroad roundhouse on Clark St.
At least some action has been taken. Won't bring back the structure, though.

Unless it's an imminent danger to public safety - it'll likely stand as-is until the insurance company has done it's thing.
