Does anyone here happen to know if there are any fast passenger rail services in Mexico, or in Central or South America?

Other than Cruise type trains there is no passenger service left in Mexico

That's really a shame.

I have seen photos of modern looking electric trains in Santiago, Chile. I don't know much about Chile's rail system, or any South American country for that matter.

According to this old 1997 speed survey, the fastest train in the Americas south of the U.S. is a run in Brazil averaging 89 km/hr (55 mph). Chile and Argentina aren't far behind. Not really high speed...
