The Railroad Historical Society of Northwest Michigan was bequeathed a NYC Fairmont motorcar several years ago. We would like to know the model no., serial no. and date built. Unfortunately someone replaced the wood covers over the engine where the builder's plate should be. The original paint shows No. M814 and there is a cast metal plate on the lower front of the chassis with M-814. Any information will be greatly appreciated.

The car looks like a Fairmont M19 according to a local expert, there use to be two manufacturers plates.
one on the bench seat and one on engine behind the radiator on shroud.
there is a person on http://www.narcoa.org/ who has entire fairmont roster information and should be able to get you missing information based on NYC car number.

Thanks DutchRailnut! We'll look for the plate first and if we can't find it we'll try NARCOA. I think one of our members belongs to that organization.
