Hi guys,

My name is Pedro Rezende and I am a railfan in southeast Brazil. I live in Minas Gerais state and here we have two companies that uses ex CR locomotives:
MRSL is a broad gauge company that have some CR C30-7.
EFVM has a big fleet of ex CR B36-7, all rebuilt to BB36-7.
I enclose a picture I took last weekend showing two EFVM DDM45 and BB36-7 running near my home. The engine is EFVM 718, ex CR 5048.

Pedro :-)

What are the heritage of the other (EMD) locomotives? I seem to recall reading of some ex-CR GP35s heading south as well.

Wow, what great pictures! Thanks for sharing them!!!

Those DDM45s must be able to pull down a house with 8 axles!!! They look great, I really like the paint on them, its really sharp!

How do they turn a B36 to a BB36? Is the fuel tank smaller, or do they enlarge the hoods and frame?

The Geeps didn´t come to Brazil. I´ve heard they were sent to Chile.
Below the list of all ex CR in Brazil until now. I tried to add it as a attachment excell plan but I couldn´t.

Yes, the ddm45 are the most fascinating locomotive I´ve ever seen. They are really great engines. :-D

CVRD did bolth things: enlarge the frames on the ends and cut a bit the fuel tanks. It is really a great job. :-D

I know is out off topic, but here is a better view of a DDM45.

How did the CSX Diesels get into the mix?
Are the extra axles to spread the weight around? Are all axles powered?
Hi Jimboylan,
CVRD (now just Vale) bought a bunch of B36-7 from GECX. The units were under Conrail and CSX controls, so some arrived here with CSX colors. We also received some with UP, NS and ATSF colors too, all them converted to BB+BB. The reason to use this wheel arrangment is to add more tractin motors to the unit. The original traction motors do no fit inside meter guage trucks, so CVRD put more small motors to get the same traction efforts of original units. All they are powered.
See here another picture of them on the ship.
