Back in the early 60's we use to load hoppers on the B&A at Trap Rock that were refered to as 'Enterprise Hoppers'. What made these cars unique, was it the door hardware? All I can recall is these cars were black while common hoppers were still red oxide.

Yes, they had doors at the lower edge of the sides parallel to the rails, operated by chains so that the opening size could be controlled for more precise ballast dumping/spreading.

I have an add from Sept. 1951 Modern Railroads. Enterprise Railway Equipment Company also made standard coal hopper door latches and "T" section frames. The Add shows NYC 868000 and states "For 4000 new hopper cars"
