I would like to know if you could purchase the day pass if you plan to do any travel on the same day? Also could you purchase it at the transit shop or it has to be done on line.

The day pass can be purchased at many SEPTA locations (I've bought them at 30th Street, Market East, and 8th & Market [SEPTA window near Strawbridges, not subway cashier]) and can be used on the day of purchase.

Just to clarify, you can also buy them in advance, and validate them whenever they are used first.
