BALTIMORE (AP)--The city of Baltimore sued CSX Corp. (CSX) on Friday, charging the freight transportation company is responsible for a train derailment and tunnel chemical fire that paralyzed parts of the downtown business district for several days in 2001.

The city is seeking $10 million to cover the cost of fighting the fire, repairing a broken water main and other costs.

"It was one of the largest city emergencies the city has seen in a long time," Mayor Martin O'Malley said Friday. O'Malley said CSX had reimbursed the city only $350,000 toward those costs.

So it only took three years for them to figure out that it cost 10 mil and slapped CSX with the lawsuit?? Alrighty then..........

They were probably waiting for the official report to be issued to try to nail down CSX's responsibility. They filed now, even though the report hasn't been issued because they were running up against the three year statute of limitations for civil actions, and would have been barred from filing, regardless of the potential ultimate findings, if they had waited any longer.
