Does anyone have a rough number for trains through West Lebanon, NH [Westboro] in the 1920s to 1940s? I work part-time at the old railyard and we'd like to include some historical stats in our next newsletter.

Thanks for any ideas

I can't comment on freight activity, but the 1932 Official Guide lists four trains each way through Westboro Mon-Sat, and three each way on Sunday. The two daily (Boston-Montreal) trains each way (one day train, one overnight) did not make station stops. The trains that did stop were locals that meandered the 70 miles from Concord in about 2:45.

In that era, the Northern RR (Concord - White River Jct) usually had two through freights each way, each day, plus a local freight each way. The through freights often had 60 - 100 cars each circa WWII. If you look at the archives of the "[email protected]" list (they're public), you will find various references to "FTSB" or Freight Train Symbol Books. Several members have them available on the web, for various years, so if you wanted an exact answer it could be found there.
