What's this area like? The track layout looks really interesting to photograph. Not too familiar with that part of NYC.

What's so interesting about a northbound track and a southbound track?

The trackloyout has been segnifgianlty curtailed over the years. What one was six tracks is now down to two. The structural layout, on the other hand....

(plus some of the more interesting details are technically part of Broadway Junction)

It's rather a rough neighborhood, but you should be OK during the day with normal caution and not looking too prosperous.
