From looking at railpictures, Oakville appears to be quite the place to catch all kinds of different traffic. I wouldn't mind living in the building in the background of this pic:

I've always thought my next place should be a hi-rise near the tracks. I'm down in Chicago, though, so I'd be seeing Metra, Amtrak, and uh, CP and CN. wait...

Here's a quick search for Oakville pics - quite the variety and plenty of passenger trains.

I don't live there and, for railfanning, normally only pass though on my way to the famed Bayview Junction. While there are a lot of passenger trains of GO Transit and VIA Rail (including Amtrak's Maple Leaf) going through Oakville, there is not all that much freight activity. Since Oakville is not on CN's freight mainline it sees mainly locals serving various industries and auto trains to/from the Ford assembly plant. Sometimes a Chicago bound CN train will pass through using the short cut to bypass the more northerly main line. CP also has trackage rights over CN through here but doesn't exercise this much any more since Ford now uses CN exclusively.

Oakville is considered to be a more upscale community (perhaps comparable to Clarendon Hills near Chicago, but with a lot of industrial businesses) and is home to the Canadian Open PGA tournament.

Contrary to your may wish to someday relocate to a trackside high-rise, I have chosen to buy a small house instead:
