The special will depart ALB on Friday morning, August 31, and will return to ALB on Monday evening September 3. The route will be Albany/Rensselaer - Syracuse - Binghamton - Scranton on Friday; on Monday the return trip will run Scranton - Binghamton - Mohawk - Schenectady - Albany/Rensselaer.

If the routing of this Amtrak special is Syracuse to Binghamton, then this train must be be traveling southbound down the New York, Susquehanna and Western Railway, which some folks may consider to be rare mileage, on August 31. I got to ride that route in October 2004, behind steam, for the 150th anniversary of passenger service between Syracuse and Binghamton. Nice scenery!

The train will have Phase 1 P42 156 in the lead, followed by F-40 406. It will include numerous private cars and the Viewliner 8400. It should enter this line after 11am.
