Amtrak 93 hit a trespasser in the Odenton, MD area around 5pm today, causing delays of up to 3 hours and MARC delays of 4 hours. They just opened things back up and are transferring passengers off 93 onto 85 and 173. A new consist will have 93's passengers going to Norfolk.

With that length of time... yeah, I think it was a fatality.

They had to haul out the terminated 93 consist overnight.

That said, Amtrak's suspended currently between DC and Philly because of brushfires hitting the line in Essex, MD (south of Martins State Airport MARC). These brushfires have also closed the southbound side of the Baltimore Inner Loop Beltway and redirected traffic through MD 702 and MD 150.

As of 5pm per WBAL-TV, fire is out and fire crews are cleaning up. They had to shut the tracks down to get hoses across from a staging area on the Inner Loop. Should be clear in an hour.

Any reports regarding delays, cancelations, rerouted of the Florida trains 91-98 arising from the "thousand year rainfall" Palm Beach. Broward, and Dade Counties have experienced?

Reportedly. the region had been confronted with drought conditions.

Nothing on the alerts. I'm guessing they're plowing through the swaps and turning alligators into handbags. :-D

Regarding the incident upon which Mr. Wolf immediately reports, Amtrak cars, Amtrak track, Amtrak Rules; uh, gonna be tough to point fingers at another party.

The hue and cry will be heard again, train dispatching, track maintenance, supervision, should all be turned over to the predominant user of CUS - METRA.

Mr Norman you worked in the industry. You already know how this is going to go. IF and I say IF the Amtrak crew did EVERYTHING (because until you get the charge letter you never know how many rules you actually broke) they were supposed to do before moving that train set. Amtrak will go after Metra. Metra in turn will then send in there own car inspectors and such to look at the equipment. Suddenly there will be issues with such things as wheel diameter, sharp flanges, brake piston travel the trucks themselves etc. etc.. Amtrak sends in MoW to inspect track and switches suddenly we have more issues, wide gauge, point issues signal issues ect. ect.

Then the horse trading will begin ultimately depending on what is traded for what perhaps the crew a few days over their head, perhaps not.

From the pictures it doesn't look like the train was capable of reversing back to Chicago. It doesn't look like the passengers had too far to walk back to the station.

According to Amtrak, a contractor caused an electrical issue on Thursday that impacted critical systems on the bridge. "
