a) SEPTA cuts back service to Philadelphia all the time, and has dropped several lines.

b) Since the bottom line is negative and the ACL has the worst fare recovery rate on any NJT rail line (http://www.railroad.net/forums/viewtopi ... 3#p1074528), cutting back or dropping the line would make the bottom line... less negative. If they cut out Philadelphia, they could possibly increase service, serving their core constituency (NJ residents who work at AC casinos) better.

Keep the discussion to Suburban Station, otherwise take the posts to the NJ Transit forum.

AC: Placing the NJT and AC Line posts in the NJT Forum is a good idea due to the current events affecting Atlantic City...
Bumping up and adding to the AC Line thread would be the place...

ChrisinAbington wrote:How many revenue cars could theoretically platform at platform zero (in Suburban)? Are Amtrak or NJ Trainsets in the ballpark?
I've occasionally boarded push pull sets on track 0, and I believe the engine + 7 cars is no problem. It's either approximately, and possibly exactly, the same length as that of tracks 5-7. though the platform is narrow like that of Track 5.

A through train would stop at 30th upper twice? Once coming from Harrisburg and 20 minutes later heading to NYC.

Ah..., but then if you missed the train, you would have a second chance to catch it... 8^)

The current Keystone service is actually a merging of the old PHL-NYP Clockers and the Suburban to HAR trains.

Since the HAR trains to NYP reverse in PHL after a 20 min layover, AMTRAK would need to split the services back up again and I don't know that there is an incentive to do that. Bringing them to Jefferson would only make things worse.

Suburban was a stub ended terminal with lots of storage tracks.

Most people don't remember that a number of tracks were removed from Suburban to increase platform width for the increased CCCT ridership.

Eight for a long time, then 2 more were added when the airport service started, making 10 in all, numbered 3-12 (don't ask). Track 5 was removed to provide a wider platform between 4 and 6, and 8 was removed to widen the platform between 7 and 9. The remaining tracks were renumbered 0-7, with 1-4 extended into the tunnel, 0 and 5-7 remaining stub tracks.

How about building some kind of connection between the NEC and the RDG mainline. That way Acela trains can then stop at all three CC stations.

Sounds like a great idea! I'll ask for that from Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, and Jack Skellington, because they're more likely to deliver than either SEPTA or Amtrak.

I heard there was a faction holding out for 9.75 and it still hasn't been resolved. But there's no hurry -- it looks like Hogwarts won't have service until sometime after Newtown and Kennett Square.

But before King of Prussia, at least.
