LIRR and NYA had a substantial paper/box business all virtually gone now. A substantial amount of freight boxcar revenue from this type of newsprint /paper roll traffic, over the years. Here are a few having ceased operation:

Southern Container- Deer park
Norma Pac and Star Corrugated- Maspeth
Combined/Island Container- Wyandanch
Heritage Paper- East New York(Bay Ridge)
American Tissue/Gaylord paper bag- Huntington 12 car spot large building
Case Paper- Long Island City
Roblaw/AJM Pineaire(back track)
Fonda/Bleyer Group- Maspeth and Bushwick spot
Pinter Brothers Deer Park I
The industries listed were served by both NYA and LIRR, with perhaps others.

Southern Container became Rock-Tenn, right? Now "WestRock"... They don't take loads anymore? The location in deer park is still listed on their website.

Maybe Greg Grice could confirm that WestRock (former Southern Container) is still actually receiving boxcars of paper rolls. I find it hard to believe that they stopped. They might be the only manufacturer of corrugated boxes left on Long Island.

Also, please check your "Maspeth" maps on your website. Two more:
- Manufacturers Corrugated Box co (Maspeth) (On first map, Haberman north) also received boxcars of paper rolls
- Alfred Bleyer also Maspeth. siding #18. Received paper rolls as well. Made paper products - paper plates, etc.

Star Corrugated in Maspeth. Manufactures had a north side and south side at Maspeth. In later years, most of that traffic was north side across from Midway Beverage (Coors). Those sidings no longer exist.

Just about all of the paper traffic (save for Newsday/Pinter) came through the NY Cross Harbor floats at Bay Ridge, along with coal for Kings Park. The rate was superior to Conrail via Selkirk and the surcharges (up to $500 per car) they placed on Long Island Traffic through Fresh Pond.

Using the Car Load Reports for the 1973-1983 period, I compiled the attached file. I didn’t see the need to go further into later LIRR dates as this provided a good sample for the time frame; post MTA and the post-Emery 1958 maps Grade Crossing Elimination Projects.
