The attached postcard just came up for sale on eBay. It would appear to be a photo of the new Mercury in 1936. The only information given was that the locomotive number was 6515. In 1936 the number would have been 4915. Can anyone identify the location as West Albany Shops where the two Pacifics wer...

I couldn't come up with a photo or postcard of the depot. But I've been searching for other things on Google Earth recently and I thought I would see what Oriskany looked like. I found what looked possibly like a freight house in the north quadrant formed by the RR and River St. - see photos. But I ...

Thank you gentlemen for your replies. I would say it's definitely Hartsdale. I did find a picture of the Hartsdale station in my files (see below). And the Bing map view clinches it. Note the two angled sections on either side of the main part of the building and the walkway over the tracks.

The 1930 classification book indicates J1-b Hudsons 5291-5249 and J1-c Hudsons 5250-5274 had Walschaert valve gear. Photos show MC J-1b's 8200-8209 with Walschaert valve gear but all the photos of MC J1-c's 8210-8214 I have seen, including a builder's photo of 8210 have Baker valve gear. J1-b&c ...

Thanks for suggesting it was a braking sled. I'd never heard of one. A search of the NYCSHS Headlights turned up a picture of B-3 in the 1994 4th Quarter issue. They were said to be cut down tenders filled with concrete. "Basically, it (B-3) is a braking trailer that was used on long switching ...

What was B-2? And how many were there? I can't find any reference to them in my loco books or rosters. The 6-wheel trucks don't look like power trucks.
