Re: Amtrak train car on LIRR Tracks in Queens, NY

Hmm. I'm assuming it was the T-16 considering T-16 is a converted Amtrak train which made me think it was an Amtrak train as there isn't any reason an Amtrak train should be on the LIRR tracks unless it was T-16. I take it that train doesn't run too often on LIRR tracks and probably rides around the...

Amtrak train car on LIRR Tracks in Queens, NY

On election day, at around 10AMish I noticed a detached Amtrak train, one train I think on tracks in Queens, NY in Forest Hills. The Amtrak Yard is in Long Island City area. I have never seen Amtrak on these tracks before which are utilized by LIRR. Struck me as odd. The tracks go from the Amtrak ya...

So many railroad accidents lately. Metro North, LIRR, Amtrak, NJ Transit, MTA subway. Amtrak also had a work train fouling the tracks which killed transit workers. I remember it vividly since Steve Forbes was on that train.

NJ Transit is lucky they built Secaucus Junction. Had that not been built, this Hoboken accident would have been much worse for everyone.

Station will get rebuilt and safety improvements made. And hopefully more redundency in the network at busy areas.

New transportation bill should help.

People are going to leave NJ in droves now. The transportation fund was sacked, and they ran out of money to steal something else. There was no excuse for this last accident If anything it just prove the legislators incompetence. Quite the contrary. Sales taxes were lowered and estate tax was remov...

Re: Hicksville and Jamaica Station Improvements Begin

Hicksville station has multiple lines and should have been done before some other stations based on ridership numbers. They all do need to get done though.

The Jamaica project is old news. They just finalized design plans for the new platform that the tracks were already being built for.

LIRR M9 deliveries

Anyone know if the test set has arrived?

M3's are breaking down more, and the cars need to go. The newer cars need less personnel to run and are a faster ride. I always hate getting on the M3's occasionally. The C3, M7 and soon M9 will all make for a nice LIRR fleet for a very long time.

I watched the congressional hearings in part, seen the information that has been released and realize accidents happen and there is no perfection and we have safeguards which will make Amtrak safer overall for others. But something in that testimony troubled me and stuck out like a sore thumb. We st...

#1, this curve was not dangerous, and automated speed control was available but not utilized on Amtrak for this curve. Amtrak had been fine on this curve for a huge multiyear period of time and ran trains constantly on this route. Something changed on this specific day. We know it was an early numbe...
