The 30 day revenue service testing has begun. I found a video on YouTube showing the R179 train on the J.

The Hitachi cars are officially testing on the mainline tracks now. Miami-Dade County posted a video to the first test.

In WMATA's Back2Good campaign, the GM said they would stop mixing the different series together and that 8 car trains would only be the new 7000 series. So, why is WMATA not living up to this promise? I occasionally see a train of mixed railcars - 3000-6000-300 or 5000-3000-3000 and a 8 car train o...

It actually could bring out some new potential bidders knowing Bombardier is out. Ever since Hitachi bought out AnsaldoBreda, Hitachi fixed a ton of their issues and they're finally able to produce railcars on time. Knowing Hitachi wants to re-establish itself in the US Market, you never know. They ...

Looks good and a nice evolution of the current railcar. Interesting thing is that they'll s...

Over 317,000 miles of mean distance between delays is a good stat right there. It's good to see Kawasaki delivering a high quality railcar as they always have.

"jayo" Considering the age, maybe they could sell the 5000's to another city, say, Philadelphia's Broad Street line? WMATA is scraping them for the same reason they are scraping the 4k cars, it would cost roughly the same to rehabilitate and end having something inferior to something new....

We'll probably be getting the same build style, just with a different wrap on it. Yeah, that's probably why they won the bid. The Miami cars do look pretty nice. So far, the cars for Miami that Hitachi Rail Italy are building are on time and have begun testing. But, I will say at least it's with Hi...

So far, the cars for Miami that Hitachi Rail Italy are building are on time and have begun testing. But, I will say at least it's with Hitachi now running the former Breda. If it had been AnsaldoBreda on their own, things could have become very questionable in terms of delivery, quality, etc. Heck, ...

"schmod" Is this the first official confirmation that 1000-1001 will be preserved? Should have preserved at least 8 cars for the purpose of commemorating significant events in Metrorail History. 1000-1001, a pair of 4000 series, a pair of 5000 series, and if there are any unrehabbed 2000/...

One thing I do know is that the R142A, R143, R160, and upcoming R179 cars all use HVAC from Mitsubishi Electric. However, the R143 and R160 cars IIRC use a larger unit with additional capacity which could indicate that difference. The R142 uses HVAC from ThermoKing (Ingersoll-Rand) which has always ...

These are going to be overhauled by Alstom at their Mare Island facility in Vallejo and will result in numerous upgrades for the trains. http://www.metro-report.com/news/news-by-region/americas/sing...

According to Thursday's Post article about the 4000 series, after Metro finishes retiring the 1000 and 4000 series this year, they will next start retiring the 5000 series. This probably won't begin until 2018. Metro bought the 5000 series from CAF in the year 2000 to add to the fleet. However, the...
